House falls down in Maraval
December 21st 2008
Ingrid Isaac and her family came in for a shock last night when three rooms from her home fell into the St Joseph river after the rains eroded her house's foundation.
Isaac and her two-year-old granddaughter stare at blank space where her kitchen and two bedrooms were once located.
That is until the St Joseph river washed away part of her house last night.
For the past 30 years Isaac and her family have been living between the St Joseph Recreation Ground and the St Joseph river.
Erosion is always a problem, but over the last three days of rain her humble abode reached its breaking point.
Some of her family's belongings now lie below on the banks of the river.
Her daughters and their children also live at the home.
The Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation has already advised her to evacuate the structure. But she has nowhere to go.
She says this week MP for the area Kennedy Swaratsingh has promised to give her word about whether she and her family can be allocated an HDC home.
