14 to compete in Calypso Monarch

14 to compete in Calypso Monarch
Sunday 7th February, 2010

A week from today 14 bards will do battle against reigning Calypso Monarch, Dr. Hollis Liverpool, Chalkdust, hoping to snatch the title from him.

The 14 were selected from a field of 35 artistes who performed at the Calypso Fiesta at Skinner Park in San Fernando on Saturday.

But come Dimanche Gras night, there will be some familiar faces who will be missing from the big yard.

The hundreds who packed the Skinner Park in San Fernando for the Calypso Fiesta on Saturday were treated to almost seven hours of fine entertainment with many training their guns on government and issues affecting the country.

But among the popular ones who failed to impress the judges was former Calypso Monarch Michael Osuna, Sugar Aloes, who sang Soldier of Success.

Politician/Calypsonian, Winston Gypsy Peters, is another former monarch who will not be making an appearance at the big yard this year.

In the finals this year are Twiggy, All Rounder, Brian London, Skatie, Devon Seales, Kurt Allen, Protector, Nicole Greaves, Roderick "Chucky" Gordon, Sean Daniel and Mr. Shak.
