Conrad Enill says there are enough gas reserves
Thursday 28th January, 2010
The Minister of Energy has denied reports of limited gas reserves available for projects to fuel economic growth.
But he announced at today's post cabinet media briefing, that Government is soon to embark on new exploration activities.
Minister of Energy Conrad Enill says although this country has sufficient gas reserves to support its current planned activity till 2023 what is needed is a prioritisation of how gas will be allocated in the short to medium term.
Furthermore, the Ministry proposes to make blocks in both deep and shallow acreage available to users. But he adds that the results of these exploration activities won't be seen for another 4 to 6 years.
He says it is one thing to have gas, but it must be put to the best possible use.
According to the Minister's data, LNG offers the best possible return followed by ammonia and methanol. And he says it is this conclusion which informs the Ministry's plans to utilise the gas resources.
The Government is said to be also open to proposals from ammonia manufacturers.
